The Chungbuk Police Are the Slowest in the Country
Á¦ 128 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2011.10.29

Recently, the Central National Police Agency measured how long it takes for policemen to arrive at the scene of a crime after reporting. The result revealed that the Chungbuk Police Agency recorded 7 minutes and 20 seconds(Codes 1 and 2) this year and Chungbuk area was selected as the slowest. The quickest region was Busan, which recorded 2 minutes and 42 seconds. There was a 4 minute and 38 second difference in the average arrival time between Busan and Chungbuk.

The National Police Agency distinguishes between Code 1 and Code 2. In the case of Code 1, the police should go very fast because Code 1 means that people are in great danger of losing their fortune or hurting themselves, such as an act of terrorism. Code 2 means occurrences of hasteless incidents. National average response time for Code 1 was 3 minutes and 46 seconds, and national average response time for Code 2 was 3 minutes and 57 seconds. The Code 1 response time of the Chungbuk Police Agency was 7 minutes and 5 seconds, and the Code 2 response time of the Chungbuk was 7 minutes and 22 seconds, which is almost 3 minutes longer than the national average response time.

Sung Boo-young, who is a student in the Department of Consumerism at Chungbuk University, said, "Recently, I got very nervous as crimes continuously occurred in Chungbuk . It was embarrassing that Chungbuk was selected as the slowest region concerning arrival time. The National Police Agency should analyse this problem and correct it."

The Chungbuk Police Agency, also said, "We are very sorry for making the people anxious due to the result. When we compare Chungbuk Police Agency with Chungnam and Jeonbuk Police Agency, which have similar conditions to Chungbuk, the causes were our old equipment and the small number of policemen. Also, policemen gave priority to help the victims, so they made arrival reports even later. To resolve these problems, we raised the number of patrol cars and made policemen report their arrival times accurately. After taking these actions, we are maintaining about 4 minutes now."

Next year, the police agency will run the Intrusion Detection System. The system will help to dispatch patrol cars that are close to victims. The police agency expects that if the system is run effectively, response time to emergency will be shorter.
