In the movie ‘The Intern’, the main character Jules (Anne Hathaway) is leading 220 employees as the CEO of a company, and she has achieved great success in a year and a half. However, she is too busy to care for her family. Jules’ husband quits his job and looks after his family instead of her. The kindergarten children’s mothers look at her with scorn. Therefore, she tries to protect her family, so she looks for a new CEO. While she is looking for a suitable CEO, some CEO candidates ignore her because she is a woman. Moreover, her husband feels bad about Jules’ success and has an affair.
  In ‘The Intern’, most people can see the world’s perspective about women. The kindergarten children’s mothers, who ignore her, show the slight social mood about working women. In addition, some CEOs say ‘sissy’ to her, so we can find that the glass ceiling still exists.
  In 1991, USA founded the Glass Ceiling Commission, which prevents discrimination against women and minority races. Nevertheless, in 2012, Mckinsey & Company(American multinational management consulting firm) said the ratio of women executives is only 15% in USA. Europe is the highest, but that is just 17%.
  In Korea, this problem is more serious. Mckinsey & Company said the ratio of women executives is only 1.9%. According to Statistics Korea, the percentage of dual-earner households in 2014 was 43.85%, which increased 0.3% from 2012. However, changing the social attitudes toward working women is slow. According to the statistical data that shows who works more in households, when both spouses have jobs, husbands work at home for 31 minutes and wives work for 180 minutes. In the cases of wives being the sole breadwinners, husbands work at home for 104 minutes and wives work at home for 145 minutes. Women put more time into families.
  The glass ceiling is a big problem for all countries. We can still find discrimination against women in Korea or USA, which we can see in ‘The Intern’. The balance of women’s lives between work and housework is becoming more important than before, so society should realize that virtue. All countries have tried to increase support for working moms, but working moms can’t feel that support. Therefore, all countries have to change their social views.
