My name is Goeprert Justine, and I am a 20-year-old girl from France. In my home country, I study Marketing and International Negotiations, but I had the chance to spend a semester as an exchange student in a partner school abroad, so I decided to go to South Korea to enrol in the Chung-Ang University as a graduate student in economics.
I have always been interested in Asia, maybe because of the huge difference between my culture and the Asian ones, so I decided to contact some Asian girls through a pen-pal website, and I got many answers from Korean girls. Thanks to that, I met my best Korean friends maybe 6 or 7 years ago ¡¦ and I still talk to them as often as possible. They taught me many interesting things about their culture, their habits and their country, it was like another world I could never reach, but one I had always been dreaming about. I always thought that I would never be able to go to South Korea or maybe that I would never get the courage to just suddenly decide to go on my own to discover this unknown country. But it was always on my mind; I just wanted to see for myself how life was going on the other side of the world and meet my lovely Korean friends.
When my Business School told me about this exchange semester abroad program, I immediately asked about the partner schools to know if some South Korean schools were involved. Only the Chung-Ang University was available for me, but no matter! I was so relieved and happy; this was just the opportunity I had been looking for for so long. Then, I did some studies about this university and found out it was a very good one. I felt so lucky. I did not even hesitate for a second and asked for this exchange program, and I was accepted.
Now, I have been in Seoul since February 28th, 2012. Three weeks have already passed, but I still have some months to enjoy the Korean way of life. I can't say why, but I just felt like a part of this country from the very first moment I put my feet on the Korean ground. Everything is just going my way, and I like Seoul a lot. I already visited some parts of the town with other international students or Korean friends: Insadong for the traditional tea and the souvenir shops, Myeongdong for the lovely stores and the unique coffee shops (like the one with cats), Hongdae for the crazy night atmosphere, stores, bars and clubs, and then Abgujeong for the amazing buildings and the luxury stores. I went to the COEX Center and visited the Aquarium there and the Changgyeonggung palace. I went to the Tourism Center in the Business Area and had my name written in traditional Hangeul, and I had the opportunity to wear a Hangbok. I also tried some street food (that I really liked), and I listened to some k-pop music!
I tasted many Korean foods, and I was never disappointed about any of them. I ate Kimpap, Bibimpap, Tanmouji, Korean barbecue, Korean pizza, Ramen, houdon, Dumplings, and Kimchi, and I also tried the Korean alcohols like Soju, Makkoli and Popoumja! Guess what? I like everything.
I still have many places to discover, foods to taste and experiences to live, but I am already thinking about the DMZ Tour, the Lotte amusement park, the Cherry Blossom period, the cultural festivals, the overview of the city from the N-Tower, visiting more palaces, and of course other cities around Seoul like Incheon or Busan. I also want to watch a live k-pop show and take some Korean cooking lessons. There are still so many things to do and places to visit. I wish I could stay longer in South Korea. I love this country, I love Korean people, and I love Seoul.
