Congratulations on the 50th anniversary of The Chungbuk Times. During the four years from college entrance and graduation, the activities as a CBT reporter gave me precious experiences and memories. I learned a lot not only from journalism but also from spending time with other reporters while thinking about relationships and communication with people. I think this is why CBT is celebrating its 50th anniversary. I hope junior reporters will continue to write better articles and enjoy their journalism. Thank you to the reporters who lead CBT and all readers who read CBT. 

  Most of the reporters who write articles have favorite articles they want to read, and want the readers to enjoy. For these reasons, I took a greedy attitude, like being ambitious in trying to make traditional newspapers interesting, when I became the 2019 editor-in-chief. Focusing on the desire to cover the articles that reporters themselves want to read and produce newspapers that readers are more interested in has now created the Experience article on page 3 and the Feature article on page 4.

  Rather than simply delivering information, I think newspapers should continue to be required to possess information that especially foreign students and professors find helpful. This can be achieved communication through interviews and exchanges with people around communities. In addition, there are still improvement points in CBT. As the internet has developed and the demand for traditional newspapers has decreased, unique newspapers are needed to have competitiveness. I hope that CBT will change to more diverse materials and improved accessibility in terms of design, not newspapers with stereotyped styles according to fixed standards and designs.

  I came into contact with CBT at the newspaper distribution site in each department building and started reading articles from CBT No. 209 published in May. In particular, in CBT No. 212 published in Oct., reporter Park Su-min’s “Desk Column: The Frame You Stuck In” was an opportunity to think about what true media neutrality is, and I have been faithfully reading the CBT ever since. 

  CBT contributes to informing about campus issues and social and cultural issues. In addition, students have recently been able to find out more about the integration of CBNU and Korea National University of Transportation through CBT, and have been helped by CBT’s efforts to quickly recognize pending issues in the school, such as summarizing questions and answers in the Glocal University 30 Project briefing session. 

  The number of students who read CBT is still small. Regression of traditional newspapers has already been expected in a media-controlled world, and students have also stopped looking for traditional newspapers. However, I think one way for CBT to increase accessibility and diversity is promotional activities such as school events and festivals on campus so that students can be exposed to it frequently.

  Congratulations to CBT, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in line with the history of the university press, which had a great influence in conjunction with the pro-democracy movement in the 1960s and 1980s. As the university press, CBT can be proud as it has great value in realizing fairness and students’ right to know. I hope you will continue to present new opinions to students and become a medium that opens the future. 

  When I returned to school, there were many restrictions on face-to-face lectures and various school activities due to COVID-19. I was looking through the school newspaper to get in touch with related school news, and I came across CBT from March, 2023. 

  I read campus news on pages 1 and 2 with the most interest. The most impressive article was an article related to Cieat, an integrated extra-curricular management system, “Let’s plant Cieat to root your capabilities!” written in 2021. At that time, I received a lot of help in actually doing school activities through the article that contains content that students could check and apply for various extra-curricular programs provided by the school through the site.

  I think CBT affected many schoolmates by delivering the most recent contents, such as glocal project through CBT Instagram site. However, I doubt that acquaintances around me will come into direct contact it. In this regard, I felt that CBT lacked accessibility and publicity. In addition, compared to the name of the school newspaper, I feel that it focuses on social-related articles rather than on campus news, and as it is a newspaper written in English, it would be nice if there were contents or articles for various international students at CBNU. 

  As mentioned in the previous question, interesting articles about campus news for international students, such as information on whether international students can participate in programs conducted on campus, or their lives through interviews will make readers interested. Moreover, If CBT reporters try to present articles with various opinions through exchanges with the press of other universities and include contents related to graduates in addition to freshmen and students, CBT will naturally have more readers interested in it.

  As it is a time when many changes are being made in schools, I think the function of the university press to deliver related information is really important for school members. As each article written by reporters is recorded in the footsteps of CBNU, I hope reporters and CBT members will work hard and  responsibly. Congratulations on the 50th anniversary of CBT. 

  To mark the 50th anniversary of CBT, the 2019 editor-in-cheif and some of the readers expressed regret over the inaccessibility and lack of diversity of CBT. In order for CBT to have a great influence in the future, it is necessary to recognize that the interests of students must be supported and focus more on promotion to increase accessibility. In addition, even if severely criticized, CBT should know that newspapers that accurately convey facts are valuable and develop constantly to form wholesome public opinion.
