As a result of the vote, the election team named Know How was elected as the CBNU General Student Union in 2014. For the first time ever, before being elected, they promised that if students aren¡¯t satisfied with their activities, they will return the student fees. They also held a different CBNU festival that was fresh and new, so they received a good response from the students. On the other hand, some students pointed out that Know How announced the reform of grade evaluations to students too late, and there are still some problems about the student fees.
CBT reporters gave questionnaires to 500 students to look into their opinions about Know How GSA. In the part of the general evaluation, Know How received an ʻAʼ from students. We also conducted a survey about election promises, the festival, GSA/student communication, students¡¯ rights, student welfare and jobs.
Here are the results. First, the results regarding promises and activities were as follows: ¡®don¡¯t know it well¡¯(38.8%) and ¡®maybe¡¯(34.2%). It indicates that many students don¡¯t know about Know How¡¯s promises and activities. Second, the results regarding the festival were as follows: ¡®satisfied¡¯(44.4%) and ¡®very satisfied¡¯(28.2%). We can assume that most of the students were satisfied with the festival including events and programs. Third, the results regarding communication were as follows: ¡®fine enough¡¯(40%) and ¡®satisfied¡¯(29%). Fourth, the results regarding the students¡¯ rights and interests were as follows: ¡®fine enough¡¯(47.2%) and ¡®satisfied¡¯(22.2%). Fifth, the results regarding the welfare and safety were as follows: ¡®satisfied¡¯(36.6%) and ¡®fine enough¡¯(38.4%). Finally, the results regarding jobs were as follows: ¡®satisfied¡¯(16.8%) and ¡®fine enough¡¯(52.2%). It indicates that students were not satisfied with their efforts in jobs.
CBT reporters interviewed the Student President about the results of the survey. Lee Woo-ju(Student President) said, ¡°It seems that, thanks to each College Student Union and the independent student organizations, we received good results from the students. Frankly speaking, the reason why many students didn¡¯t know about our promises and activities is because our university is so broad that we couldn¡¯t hang up enough placards to inform the students about us. Therefore, we couldn¡¯t help relying on SNS. It¡¯s a shame that we¡¯ve constantly tried to communicate with the students only to fail.¡±
He said about the festival, ¡°I think that the reason why most of the students were satisfied with the festival is because we did not only prepare for the festival so well but also because we received much help from the students. It all boils down to the cooperation between the students and us.¡±
And he said about students¡¯ rights, ¡°I am so interested in students¡¯ rights that I¡¯ve tried to show more concern about it. For example, I visited lots of national universities across the country to meet with student presidents and shared information related to students¡¯ rights and interests. In addition to that, we also held a conference and proposed our opinions to the Education Ministry.¡±
Finally, he said on jobs and studying, ¡°I admit that compared to other areas, we couldn¡¯t open many programs regarding jobs, but I¡¯ve made efforts to raise CBNU¡¯s reputation because I think that it is very important that our university gets a good grade from the Education Ministry. In order to find the solution regarding employment, I¡¯ve also tried to work with the CBNU Headquarters of Employment.¡±
In response to the problems about the reform of grade evaluations and student fees, he said, ¡°I¡¯ve tried to reflect students¡¯ opinions and asked our university to make a reasonable system for the students, and I am sure that it will improve next year.¡±
At the end of the interview, he said, ¡°I want to say the next student president should see the woods for the trees. In addition to that, the student president should always consider the students¡¯ rights and interests first.¡±
