Students in Chungbuk National University(CBNU) will have more conveniences due to the donated new building named the NH Building by Nonghyup as well as facility upgrades and new building constructions.
CBNU received a donation, the NH Building from Nonghyup, at the end of March. NH Building was built by the full investment of Nonghyup and is going to be given to CBNU as a contribution. As soon as Nonghyup completes its construction, the entire building is going to be donated to CBNU, but Nonghyup has the right of using the first story for 20 years. Nonghuyp Bank, which was located in the Gaesin Cultural Center, already moved into the NH Building.
NH Building has an area of 3,257m©÷ with one underground level and four stories above ground. Nonghyup Bank is going to use the 1st story, and the study hall and the student lounge will be on the 2nd story. Finally, a fitness center will be operated on both the 3rd and 4th stories. CBNU is directly going to operate the fitness center and advertise to students and school faculties within 1 or 2 months after completion of construction. However, the opening day and fees have not been decided yet.
The construction of the Gaechuckgwan, one of the male dormitories, was completed on February 25th. Furthermore, the remodeling of Jinrigwan, another male dormitory, is planned. Jinrigwan, with one underground level and five stories above ground, has been assigned about 2 billion won for its remodeling. It will be completed during summer vacation and will include student rooms, hallways, and a laundry room among other facilities.
The 3rd Buphakgwan is almost finished with its exterior construction. It is located next to the College of Agriculture, Life, and Environments Sciences. The administrative office of that college and students who belong to the department of Food Science & Technology, Plant Medicine, Horticultural Science, and Environmental & Biological Chemistry are going to use the 3rd Buphakgwan. It solves the space problem that too many departments have so far used one building together, so there have not been sufficient classrooms. The 1st story will be used for the administrative office, and lecture rooms and exhibit rooms will be on the 2nd story. Experimental laboratories will be placed from the 3rd story to the 6th story. The 3rd Buphakgwan is scheduled to open in September.
Moreover, CBNU conducted a safety check for educational facilities in March. It was performed in every building in the campus to check if the buildings are still safe from the thaw after winter vacation. The safety check includes inspection, diagnosis, repair, and reinforcement to prevent safety accidents from structural defects. Regulations say to check it in March and September every year. Additionally, CBNU is changing security light fixtures in the campus with new LED lamps and also installing more security light fixtures in the street. Currently, 630 out of 775 security light fixtures have been changed and CBNU will change 60 more by the end of April.
Park Ho, a staff member in the Departments of Facilities Management, said about facility management, ¡°We are trying to do our best about facility improvement for student convenience. However, we implement maintenance of facilities after we examine various situations and prioritize, and then we discuss its necessity.¡±
