The term of Giant General Students Association(GSA) is coming to an end. Giant had issued 27 electoral pledges and fulfilled 21 pledges until now. Most Chungbuk National University(CBNU) students were satisfied with Giant¡¯s efforts.
Giant failed to perform 6 pledges (graded tuition according to credit, the securing of transparency in scholarships, the reduction of print and duplication prices, the introduction of the attendance system considering menstruation, the discount of parking fees, saving when buying a book in campus bookstore). The pledges could not be implemented because of the problem of costs and difficulty of negotiations.
158 CBNU students participated in the survey. 5.1% of students answered ¡®Very Satisfied¡¯ to the question about whether students were satisfied with Giant GSA¡¯s efforts. 26.6% replied ¡®Satisfied¡¯ and 55.1% were ¡®Neutral¡¯. 11.4% answered ¡®Dissatisfied¡¯ and 1.9% responded ¡®Very Dissatisfied¡¯. According to the survey, students were generally satisfied with Giant¡¯s efforts. In addition, 53.8% of students answered ¡®Yes¡¯ to the question about whether Giant has fulfilled the pledges well. 38% replied ¡®No¡¯ to the question. 11.4% replied ¡®Don¡¯t know¡¯ to the same question. Most students thought the GSA performed their pledges well.
Jeong (Dept. of Biochemistry, sophomore) said, ¡°For the first time, I could enjoy the campus festival this year because students had plenty of opportunities to participate in the festival.¡± He had an affinity for Giant. However, Yang (Dept. of Child Welfare, senior) said, ¡°I can¡¯t recall any memorable GSAs, including Giant, in my campus life. I think it is a problem that a memorable GSA doesn¡¯t exist.¡± He criticized GSAs¡¯ efforts including Giant. Kim (School of Business, junior) said, ¡°Giant kept pledges well. However, their efforts were only for show. I wish they would hold events where all students could participate and receive benefits, but they did not.¡± She indicated that Giant¡¯s pledge fulfillments were a mere formality.
Most students replied to the question: What do you want from the next GSA?, ¡°I hope they keep pledges well.¡± Kim (Dept. of Management Information Systems, sophomore) said, ¡°I think GSA exists for students. Therefore, they should plan pledges for students and keep the pledges properly.¡± She is hopeful for the 2013 GSA. Furthermore, students wanted to open GSA¡¯s budget and closing accounts. Kim (School of Electrical Engineering, sophomore) said, ¡°Giant promised to make the GSA open all expense reports. I expected that they would fulfill this pledge in a way by posting a hand-written sign on each department. However, they didn¡¯t post the report in a visible place. I hope the next GSA will post a hand-written poster.¡±
Kim Jin-sung (GSA president of Giant) said, ¡°I worked hard to make the best GSA. Although I left some things to be desired, I don¡¯t have regrets.¡± The president also said, ¡°The previous ¡®The Plus¡¯ GSA pulled the GSA through the hardest time that I have ever seen. In addition, The Plus¡¯s president received reproof owing to the fact that she was the first female GSA president of CBNU, but she handled the pressure well. They also had a lot of good ideas and various pledges. I felt a burden because The Plus had done a great job, but I aimed to surpass The Plus and worked hard.¡± Kim Jin-sung thinks the pledge of making a place for communication through SNS was their best effort. Moreover, he regretted CBNU students' not actively participating in Giant¡¯s efforts. The remaining work that Giant has to do is to hold Free Culture Day in the first week of December and to conduct the November 28th elections. The president said about finishing up Giant, ¡°I share all the joys and sorrows with students to the end, and I wish to leave a good impression on students. In addition, I plan to teach what I have learned for a year to the next GSA.¡± He said to the next GSA president, ¡°I hope that you will behave as intellectual people who represent Chungbuk, and I expect to improve GSA.¡±
