The lack of method for communication between students and professors

The introduction of their communication systems is needed

Many students suffer from not being informed about a suddenly cancelled class or a changed class. It's because of the lack of method for communication between students and professors. Park Hyeon-sil(Dept. of Economics, ¡¯11) said, "I went to take a class one day, but I noticed that it was cancelled after finding a memo written on the board as soon as I reached the class. I felt very disappointed as I went back home because I only took the class on Fridays. However, it was comparatively fortunate for me because I lived within the city. I had some friends who took the same class with me and lived outside the city, and they had to pay much money to come and go, so it would be uncomfortable.
When a class is cancelled or a classroom is changed, students normally hear the notification from the professor in the previous class. However, a problem occurs when a class cancellation has to be announced all of a sudden. In this situation above, the professor gets in touch with a teaching assistant, and then the teaching assistant informs students about the news. The problem there is that it¡¯s not easy to inform the students because the system of getting in touch with the students is not well-organized. Concerning this, a teaching assistant of the Dept. of English Language and Literature said, ¡°If professors all of a sudden let me know about cancelling their classes or changing a classroom, I can¡¯t help handling it by writing it on the board. When it comes to graduate school classes, if it is cancelled, I individually get in touch with each of the students because graduate school students usually have their own jobs. It¡¯s possible because there is a small number of people in each class. However, for the undergraduate school classes, there are lots of students there, so, even if it is an emergency situation, I can¡¯t handle it if the students are not all from the same grade.¡±
For now, there are two typical ways that connect professors and students in CBNU. One of them is the e-Learning System, and the other one is the total information system. CBNU e-Learning System, supported by the Center for Teaching & Learning, is a learning management system which provides various lecture contents for effective class management of both students and professors and the improvement of the learning environment. In this system, each Internet classroom, which is related to every real class, has already been made. Professors can post notifications about their classes there, and students can submit their homework on-line. When it comes to the total information system, it is divided for students and for professors. For students, they can use the system variously to confirm their class information and to issue certificates. For professors, they also can use this system diversely. Professors especially can send e-mail to each student of their classes by using the system if they have private business.
However, the use is insignificant even though these systems exist. Some students don¡¯t know about the existence of the e-Learning System because it has not been revitalized. In addition, among students who are aware of its existence, there are few who use the system. It is the same with professors. The rate they use the system for their classes is very low. Moreover, professors almost never use the total information system to send e-mail to students because, according to the development of SNS nowadays, students nearly don't use their e-mail accounts. Furthermore, it's practically impossible to notify sudden announcements to students by using these systems.
Sin Yun-jeong(Dept. of Management Information Systems, ¡¯12) said, "It is professors' faults if they don't properly notify students about the announcement of their classes. They have to be responsible for it because they plan and conduct their own classes. If they cancel their classes because of a school affair, I think it is a good idea that the school itself builds a network for all students to notify students who take the classes. On the other hand, there's some professors who run their own homepages and post announcements about their classes on them, but they are uncomfortable because students have to memorize the addresses. Therefore, invigorating the existing e-Learning System can be another good way to notify students about the class announcements properly."
