CBNU Cleared Its Name as a Restructuring University
Á¦ 134 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2012.08.31

Chungbuk National University(CBNU) was selected as a restructuring university last year with Kangwon, Kunsan, and Gangneung-Wonju National Universities, and Busan National University of Education based on eight indicators such as employment rate, enrollment rate, and scholarship rate. Although there was not a financial disadvantage like other private universities, this resulted in a negative image of our university. On August 22, 2012, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST) announced a second list of restructuring universities including the lower 15%. MEST selected ¡®2013 Preliminary Restructuring Universities¡¯ based on the suggestion by the Structural Reform for University Committee. MEST will accept objections until the end of this month. Therefore, a list of final restructuring universities will be announced on September 4.

To get out of the title of a restructuring university, CBNU made a variety of efforts. Human Resource Development Center (HRDC) implemented many programs for increasing its employment rate, which was a crucial indicator of why we were selected as a restructuring university. The ¡°JUMP-UP¡± program, which is comprised of customized consulting for employment and mentoring of graduates who are successful in employment, is included in these programs. Almost 600 enrolled students and unemployed graduates participated in the program. 7 experts on employment consulted with the participants about writing a job application form, interviewing, making a good image, and career counseling for 2~4 hours twice a week. HRDC also ran a mentoring program at 1 p.m. every Saturday. The participants could vividly exchange information with graduates who work in SK Hynix, LG Chemistry, Shinhan Bank, and Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation. On the sidelines of the program, HRDC has implemented a ¡°Job-Matching¡± program which provides the unemployed graduates with customized information for recruitment through e-mail or by phone. Finally, HRDC selected 15 job supporters to promote HRDC which has made many programs for students this year. Job supporters have done a lot of activities for on-off promoting targeting their college students and especially played an important role in increasing its Facebook followers to more than 1,000.

Han Jung-hwa, who is a staff member of HRDC, said that we have made an effort to increase the employment rate by running specialized programs through the Reinforcement of the Capability in Education and the Job Experience Program for the young, which are supported by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and MEST

Meanwhile, CBNU was concerned about a possibility of the decreasing number of freshman application, so they tried to remove the negative image. Heaul members, who are in charge of promoting CBNU, hosted not only the campus tour for high school students but a briefing session on its admission requirements with admission officers from April to November. They participated in the regular and irregular admission exposition and tried to consult with the people in a friendly manner. Finally, Heaul always monitored the school homepage and rapidly delivered notices to students through SNS. The aim was to make the public more aware that CBNU is not a restructuring university anymore.

MEST targeted 300 universities all over the country and selected the lower 10% of all universities considering the percentage of students driven to universities in capital areas. After that, they categorized all universities into capital and local areas, and they selected the lower 5% universities. Finally, MEST selected preliminarily the lower 15% universities, and they will open a list prior to the beginning of entrance examinations so that high school students will not be affected by the wrong information.
