The 21st General Female Students Association(GFSA) ¡®e-ß¾' hosted a field day last May 19th on a brilliantly sunny day. Lee Sang-jeong, the chief of GFSA, stated the purpose of the field day by saying, "We arranged this field day in order to give CBNU female students a chance to participate in sports events." She added, "We hope that female students will recover their strength and lead healthy lives through exercise."
The opening ceremony of the field day was held in a small schoolyard at 1p.m. During the ceremony, GFSA counted the number of attendees and distributed coupons. If students participated in events which were conducted by GFSA, the students could obtain confirmation stamps on the coupons from staff members of GFSA. After the ceremony, a wide array of sports events were played: female arm wrestling, 'Queen dodge ball' where male students should guard their female students against opponents' attacks, tug-of-war with 3 ropes, games of yut with missions, and relay races. Before holding the field day, GFSA accepted applicants from many colleges: Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Commerce and Business Administration, Engineering, Agriculture, Life and Environment Sciences, Human Ecology, Veterinary Medicine, and Law. There were 150 female participants and 100 male participants.
Meanwhile, lots of pizzas which piled up in GFSA's box seats attracted attention. GFSA purchased 100 pizzas, whose price was 4,000 won each, for the field day. GFSA provided attendees pizzas for snacks and awarded pizzas as additional prizes.
The students' evaluations were polarized about the field day. L, a student of the College of Electronics Engineering '10, said, "I took part in the arm wrestling competition. I was defeated in a short time, but it was amusing. Also, dodge ball was just as fun as arm wrestling." On the other hand, J, a student of the Dept. of Consumer Studies '11, said, "My friends promised to attend this field day, but they didn't keep that promise. It made me feel upset. I couldn't participate for long because I had to take classes. This field day was tedious."
Many participants said that arm wrestling and dodge ball were the most entertaining of other sports events. Arm wrestling was exciting and spirited due to a short time limit of 20 seconds. Dodge ball brightened up the atmosphere because male and female students played together enthusiastically.
Jo Ha-nul, a staff member of GFSA, said, "At first, we worried about an insufficient number of attendees, but many students attended beyond expectation. Some students just came to cheer their friends. I think the field day was worthwhile because the participants cooperated in harmony."
