Yongin, Home of Traditional and Modern Art
Á¦ 114 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2010.03.02

ED: In Yongin, there is a Korean folk village preserving Korean traditional culture and the Yongin traditional market. Also, there are various culture facilities like the 'Nam- jun Paik Art Center' and the 'Zien Art Space' displaying works of art. CBT covered the city of Yongin, which is a harmony of our traditional and modern art.
Have you ever wondered about the set of a drama as you watched a historical drama? In Yongin, there is a Korean folk village where the sets are produced in private houses, provincial governor's offices and alleys located in the city, which existed in the Cho-sun dynasty. When you walk along an alley of the folk village, you can feel as if you are walking in an alley in the Cho-sun dynasty. Houses are decorated with items from the Cho-sun dynasty. With signs of explanation, you can easily understand the differences among the houses. Next to a straw-roofed house, you can see a tile-roofed house where a scholar or noble lived. The curve of the tiled roof and the large garden represent sentiments of the scholars. If you go to the marketplace, you can sit on low wooden benches and eat many Korean traditional dishes. Also, there are many performances in the performing arena. If you previously checked a showtime, you can see nongak, tightrope walking, and horse riding tricks without waiting, and you can appreciate cultural traditions by the 3,000 items collected from abroad in the 'World Folk Museum.' Also, there is a museum, an art museum and a historical drama exhibition where historical drama scenes and images are exhibited. You can experience traditional culture through folk games.
'Nam-jun Paik Art Center' is located near the Korean folk village. The museum was established to commemorate Paik Nam-jun as the founder of video art. The center was opened for everyone for free. Everyone can excitedly appreciate his works without professional knowledge, and you can see not only his works but also other artists' works. The 'Zien Art Space' is located in front of the art center. Various genres of art are displayed, and people enjoy eating dinner and talking in a beautifully decorated restaurant and cafe, and in the 'Living shop' or 'Art shop', you can look around and buy crafts made by artists.
If you have time left after looking around the Korean folk village and the art center, CBT recommends that you visit the Yongin traditional market. The market place is famous for sundae. The sundae in Yongin market is made from intestines instead of  pork. The smell of the sundae is better and its size is bigger than the sundae in other places. Not only regular customers of the marketplace but also college students of nearby universities enjoy the sundae, and the lean sundae is favored by female university students.
The past and the present coexist in Youngin. The city is very attractive. Both the youth and the elderly will be amused by a trip to Yongin. The weather will become warmer as the days progress. How would you like to travel to Youngin with parents or grandparents on a lovely day?
