From August 7 to October 25, Incheon held the “Global Fair & Festival 2009 Incheon, Korea.” Incheon is a good place to enjoy the West sea or go to some islands. Therefore, it is easy to think of the image of the port city. However, there is not only the West sea, but also other many good shows. “Wolmi Do” and “Chinatown” are examples. Getting off the No.1 subway line in Incheon station, there is the 1st Paeru, which is the symbol of “Chinatown.” Chinatown, which is the only one in Korea, has a total of three Paerus, and those are milestones which indicate Chinatown. After Incheon port was opened to foreign traders in 1983, the Chinese culture was formed as the Chinese lived together. Therefore, you’ll see Incheon Chinese Zhongshan School, Haean Catholic church, etc in the city. Not only the culture of the Chinese, but also the Japanese culture is seen in the city through Japan’s bank, Hongyemun, the Japanese Consulate etc. The Old Japan’s 18 bank branch in Incheon especially offers various good shows after it changed to the Incheon Open Port Modern Architecture Museum. Walking in Chinatown, you’ll see Jayu Park, which has the statue of Douglas MacArthur. In this place, the first Western park in Korea, you can enjoy a walk and look for meaningful sights like the Korea-US Diplomatic Relations 100 Years Memorial.
After enjoying the culture of other countries in Chinatown, let’s go to Wolmi Do near the Incheon Station. Perhaps you heard of the Wolmi Do once; you may consider it as an island. However, the place has changed into mainland through the land reclamation project of the past. Therefore, it is easy to go to Wolmi Do by bus. Seeing the West sea, you can lure gulls near using a cookie. There are many places to go in Wolmi Do, but I recommend one place: Wolmi Amusement Park. There are several amusement rides like Apollo Disco and Wolmi Viking. Therefore, it will offer enjoyment if you are tired because of walking all day long. Also, you can visit Youngjongdo, Jagyakdo, Silmido by excursion ship or passenger ship.
Incheon is a good place to depart for travel to islands. If you take a ship at Incheon Port International Passenger Terminal, you can travel to various islands. There is an island called “Jawoldo” among the many islands. This island, which means “reddish moon,” boasts beautiful sights in winter. Even though the ship operates once a day and it takes about 1 hour 40 minutes to go, you can appreciate excellent scenery without regret. It is an unusual site that people can see everything at once; see the sea, mud, rocks, and sandy roads etc. The clear sea doesn’t smell salty, shells make a road along the waterway, and starfish stay on the sandy road. There are clean oysters in rocky places, so you can dig and eat the oysters. Sliced raw fish is good food near the sea, but noodle soup with seafood is also delicious on the island. Moreover, accommodations are developed well because a ship runs once a day.
