Interview with author Kim Soul

What do you usually do in your free time? Do you happen to have any hobbies or are you too busy doing this and that? In the book titled 'Healing Cat in the Forest', the author Kim Soul advises university students to have some hobbies and to express energy through them. How about spending your spare time with coloring books? It is not only easy to start to read but also refreshes our minds from stress. The CBT reporters met the author and learned about the way to settle our minds down. -Ed.

Some students have failed to control themselves. I think that is because they fail to emit their energy. Students on the weekends usually spend time doing web surfing or reading webtoons lying on the sofa. In that case, their energy remains stagnant. Do whatever you can. You may go to a karaoke room or go hiking. I think doing coloring books also can be a good hobby. The process of coloring itself absorbs you and frees you from stress. The more remarkable thing is that you can be creative. Still, doing everything by yourself from the very beginning, the sketch stage, would be best, but the difficulty lies within. You can complete your works much more easily when coloring books. Enjoying hobbies always has to be joyful. While working on these books, you will never be stressed with incompetence.

Since I had learned art for a lengthy period of time and it was thing that I love the most, it was so natural for me to choose art as my major. It is surely ridiculous to decide something you don¡¯t like as a career. When I was in high school, my only goal was to go to Hong-ik University. I never got sidetracked. Every student in college might have studied hard to go to college. Now, you are in a university and have free time to experience anything, so find what you truly like. People who say, ¡°I don¡¯t know what I want to do or what I like to do,¡± are irresponsible about their lives. You might live your whole life as being ignorant of thinking who you are. The thing is, your life must be difficult whether you live the life you choose or not. If so, do what you love and heighten the density of your hard working. Then, you can easily be in the middle of your field if not the highest class. Be harder on yourself.

I am an animal artist as well as an art therapist. I have lots of things to do. Every work I did has been derived from art. Since I like to draw, I do art therapy, hold art exhibitions, and write books. Of course, I will continue to draw. The other goal I have is that I want to write many books. I have a lot of things on my mind and like to write. There is a limit on the number of people who can hear me when I give a speech. I want to use a medium that makes it possible to communicate with more people.
