The very popular drama, ¡°Extraordinary Attorney Woo¡± which ended recently, deals with the story of Woo Young-woo. She happens to be a genius lawyer with an autism spectrum disorder, who entered a law firm and solves cases with other colleagues. There are many famous lines in the drama ¡°Woo Young-woo,¡± but one of them is ¡°Woo Young-woo whether you read my name straight or vice versa. There is a shooting star, Swiss, Indian, wild goose tomato.¡± This line is what Young-woo says when she introduces herself to someone, she meets for the first time. When Young-woo says this line, people look at her strangely and sometimes feel uncomfortable. The senior lawyer and his co-worker who got to work with Young-woo were also not able to greet her brightly at first. However, Young-woo was able to solve the cases in the drama by using her creative ideas and her eidetic memory. She was recognized within the company for her ability and then scouted by various other law firms. Young-woo does not hesitate to say that she is different from others but uses her strengths to accomplish what she wants to do. In the drama, Young-woo tries to overcome her limitations by repeating ¡°no echo words¡± and ¡°no whale talk.¡± The most impressive part was when she was able to solve a case in the drama. I was also touched when her eyes shone more than anyone else when she was talking about whales. When I saw the scene where Young-woo was happy while she was doing what she wanted, I wondered, ¡°How can she look so happy?¡± I also thought, ¡°Have I ever been so happy?¡± Looking back, there were many difficult moments last semester when I simultaneously tried to do various tasks such as writing for the newspaper, mentoring, schoolwork, and part-time work. I was tired and wanted to give up. However, I have been happy no matter how hard it was when I studied psychology and did other things that I wanted to do. I hope that you will find out how important it is to know what makes you the happiest, and if you are still searching for it, I recommend that you create an opportunity to find out what you like and when you are the happiest. There seems to be no happier moment than when you are doing what you like.
Then, I went to the Center for the Support of the Development Disabled to conduct an interview for the article in this issue, I could look for another answer to the above question. While I was talking to the director of the center, I heard a story about a person who worked at the center. I¡¯ve heard that she also has an autism spectrum disorder, but she wants to learn everything and try everything. I talked with her for a while, and she said she was studying to get a barista certificate within a few months. And while she was talking about what kind of work she wanted to do in the future her eyes were full of passion and she looked happy. When I heard that story, I suddenly wondered, ¡°Have I ever lived such a challenging life?¡± and ¡°Have I ever tried something with passion?¡± Young-woo, the main character in the drama, has something in common with the person who works at the center. It¡¯s not that they are different from others, but they look happy when they constantly challenge themselves beyond their limits for something they like. Especially when they achieve their own goals. Until now, I have been living with vague future goals such as ¡°graduation¡± and ¡°employment¡± without any clear goals or steps to take to achieve them. Therefore, while I was wandering around because I didn¡¯t know what to do or whether I was doing well at this point in time, I felt a vague sense of uneasiness. However, I have realized what I want to achieve, and what makes me happy, and at that moment, I realized that it was important to live with goals even in small things. Thus, now I get up at 8 a.m. every morning, walk 10,000 steps a day, read a book, and feel accomplishment when I succeed in things I can do right now. It¡¯s a very small matter, but every day is worthwhile while doing these things, and I end every day with satisfaction. If you are not sure that you are doing well at the moment, I recommend trying to achieve it with a tiny goal instead of a vague one. If you do it step by step, you will feel more confident and more satisfied with your life.
