In the famous fairy tale The Little Prince, there is the story of ‘The Elephant and the Hat’. The story begins with a picture drawn by the writer. Adults look at the picture of the writer and say, “That looks like a hat.” and they are convinced it’s ‘a hat’, but the little prince says it’s ̔a boa snake that swallowed an elephant’. And in this way the author criticizes narrow-minded thinking with his famous line, “The most important thing is invisible.” And the story was praised by many experts and readers. That’s why the painting The Elephant and the Hat is talked about even though a long time has passed. However, this reporter couldn’t fully understand the meaning at a young age, maybe because it was too profound for a child receiving a uniformed education where “1+1=2.” However, by the time the seasons changed and more knowledge was gained, the lessons of the elephant and hat, which were totally incomprehensible at the time, became understandable and profound.
  These days, SNS has developed to the extent that we can read more writings than in the past. In fact, we are now in a position where we have unlimited access to the present and past writings of historical and contemporary writers from all over the world.  According to the IT industry, the amount of data generated in a day by routine searches amounts to 250,000 trillion bytes. It would take a CD, twice as wide as the distance between the earth and the moon, to contain all this data! Whenever you are walking down the street, you can see people staring at their smartphones, portal sites and SNS. It is unfortunate that analog sensibilities have disappeared. Even though, it is clear that this is a very useful modern product for busy modern people, there are clearly two fatal disadvantages: First, SNS users prefer graphics and pictures to writing, and second, they cannot easily determine whether the content is true or not.
  It only takes a moment to get used to short posts on SNS which don’t require effective ‘communication and critical thinking’. As such, it becomes increasingly difficult to read lengthy articles and readers feel bored more easily. Unlike in the past, when it comes to writing, it has become difficult to put weight on a single word. First, because people become used to short and simple content, and second, because they don’t have the opportunity to be exposed to serious and thoughtful writing. So the reporter agonized over what one should do to write a good article? In books related to interviews and writing by experts it is recommended that, “Good writing should be plain and for sentences to be plain, adjectives, adverbs, and conjunctions should be reduced. To be honest, write easily and put your own reasons and after reflecting on it in rhythmic sentences.” However, the writings that the reporter had been reading and writing were the opposite, and the reporter felt it is more difficult to write an individualized article.
  This reporter really wanted to write a good article, so after thinking about how to improve it, chose writing culture courses and joined the CBNU-English newspaper office. And this was a good choice. First of all, the reporter could learn the meaning of writing and the depth of thought by learning basic common sense and language rules about writing through the lecture. The professor said that writing also reveals the personality and values of the writer. In other words, writing is the same as showing oneself. Then how does a writer write? The conundrum was naturally solved by writing monthly articles for the English-language newspaper. It is because it became a daily routine to spend time thinking about what readers are curious about. In addition, the reporter conducted interviews and field surveys to enhance the credibility of the articles. Through these experiences, this reporter discovered writing that took a lot of time to write, and realized that good writing had a depth of affection. In a word, “He who sees cannot beat the reader, and he who reads cannot beat the writer.” Ours became a society where rapid reading was taken for granted as it became accustomed to short writing through SNS. However, it is the sincere hope that this reporter will not lose depth of thought through a perusal with weight even if it is short writings. Then, you might even see a ‘boa snake eating an elephant’ in the painting that looks like a hat.
