Recently, TV survival shows are very popular in Korea. Why do Koreans go crazy about them?  Some critics explained that these shows reflect our real lives. As the survival shows require their participants to survive in stiff competition, we are also forced to compete with others every day. Accordingly, many books have been published to let us know how to grab success. Even though they suggest a number of ways, those books come to the conclusion "success depends on person's mind." In other words, “a person’s mind decides his or her own destiny.”

 Several years of my experience with students confirms that "students' minds decide their own destiny." For example, more than half of law school students have already studied law through a law course of undergraduate or self-studies. They were expected to much better competitive positions to prepare Korea's bar exam. By the way, surprisingly, all of them do not hold high ranks in class. To make matters worse, some are behind schoolworks. I am teaching administrative law in law school. When my class starts with basic knowledge necessary for understanding of advanced one, some students are not likely to listen carefully because they thought they already knew it. Based on my limited experience, it is somewhat difficult to generalize a reason of their low achievement but I dare to say that “knowing blocks minds of learning.

 I am sure that “Mind makes Person” since mind must create value a person pursues. For example, 1)  Mind affects behavior; 2) behavior affects habit; 3) habit affects personality; and 4) personality affects destiny.

 Here, I would like to quote Japanese critic, Kobayashi Hideo. A word disturbs your eyes. For example, suppose you are walking in the green field and find a beautiful flower. As soon as its name pops up in your head. Its name closes your eyes and you stop watching its colors and looks. It is really difficult to keep your eyes on the flower in silence. If its name does not prevents you from watching it, the flower will welcome you with a big smile and beauty, which are never shown to anyone. Kobayashi said “words steal eyes of finding beauty.” 

 A delusion of knowing well affects minds. Minds shut down eyes and ears of learning. Scientist Louis Pasteur said “Chance favors the prepared mind or Fortune favors the prepared mind.” He replaced words ‘luck’ and ‘the prepared’ with ‘chance’ and ‘the prepared mind.' If mind is not ready, even chances toward success will not given. I would like to appeal to CBNU students. Beginning with the prepared mind, why do not you get ready for a super star?
