With an increasing interest on environmental protection these days, there are various programs related to it. One program that I want to introduce is the environmental and ecological experience program at the Musim River. For 2 months starting from this April, through this program, you can learn scientific principles of daily life and the need for environmental protection. This program, pushed forward by the CBNU Science and Technology Promotion Center in cooperation with Cheongju City, aims for families to experience environmental programs. It is held at the Musim River roller-skating rink by the lawn every Saturday from 2:00 P.M to 4:30 P.M.
If you are a Cheongju citizen, regardless of age, it is possible for you to enjoy the program. The program registration is only possible at the lawn, because the programs are all different at different times, you should be careful about which program you register for. The main programs are EM(microorganisms) soap making, finger knitting scrub brushes and terrarium. The terrarium is an activity of growing small plants in small glass bottles. It is one kind of gardening, which also serves as an interior decoration. In this program, it is possible to experience planting small plants directly into a plastic container by using ocher and dirt. This program is expected to give an opportunity to children who have never planted plants before. Because volunteers explain scientific principles directly in each program, it is possible to learn science principles and experiences. Also, there is a variety of programs that can teach the principles of science in our life. In addition, ¡®Musim River Water Quality Inspection Program¡¯(May 18th), where people can experience researching and analyzing the water of Musim River and ¡®Musim River Ecology Observation Program¡¯(May 25th), where people can observe the ecology of the river, are held.
Professor Kim Hak-yong(Dept. of the Biochemistry), who participated in this program, said, ¡°The program is made for the popularization of science and for the awareness that science is not a boring subject but a thing to have fun with.¡± By experiencing the Musim River environmental and ecological program, people can improve their interest and familiarity about nature. Moreover, these programs make people learn about scientific principles that are helpful for environmental protection, so if you are a Cheongju citizen, I recommend you visit there.
