Hexen Abfahrt Festival

In the middle of every January, over 1,300 witches slide on skis at Blatten Village and Belap Mountain Peak in Valais State of the southern Alps in Switzerland. All people join the grand skiing match without distinction of age or gender, keeping in disguise as a witch. The festival for witches is held for a week, but the grand skiing match is opened for one day. On the day before the skiing match, a party called “Witch’s Night” is held. People shout, “d’ Hax isch los!” which means a witch is coming out, and they enjoy the party disguised as witches. Then, the grand skiing match starts at daybreak. It is a long challenging course of 12km, but people enjoy the festival regardless of the victory. Skiing with witch’s brooms instead of ski sticks, you will hallucinate that you have become a real witch.
 
Venezia Carnival
In famous Venezia, a city built on stilts over the water, Venezia Carnival is held in February. At the festival which progresses without special plans, you can be a hero of the festival by wearing only a mask. Foreign enemies invade Venezia. This festival has significance because both nobles and plebeians enjoy the festival with splendid costumes while ignoring the class system. Also, you can enjoy the festival hiding yourself with a mask and a splendid costume. It is the biggest merit in this festival. Each peculiar mask will tempt you. While you enjoy the festival, you will feel that you are back to the Renaissance and the Baroque era.
