On the 29th of July, a group of Sudanese students from UMST (University of Medical Sciences and Technology), which consists of four students (Bashir Mohamed Salah, Modather Abd allah, Mosab, Shripa Parekhl) and their teacher (Mohammed Izalden), visited Korea as a grant from IT-NURI of Chungbuk National University with collaboration and organization between the Sudanese ambassador in Korea and professor Keun Ho-ryu, whose laboratory, DB/Bioinformatics, hosts the Sudanese delegation. The aim of the visit was to take a comprehensive course in the art subjects, Data Mining and Data Visualization.
During the first two days, they had a tour in the university and together with all the DB/Bioinformatics laboratory members, Professor Ryu organized a welcoming dinner where he introduced the Sudanese delegation to his lab members.
After that, they started the data mining course which was taught by Dr. Nhan from July 31 to August 11.
Then, they took another course about Data Visualization, which was taught by Professor Goach Pok from August 11 to August 22.
They gained the full benefit from the courses that their teacher Mohammed Izalden gave. If he has a chance to start a PHD course in Chungbuk National University, he said, he will not hesitate to apply.
During the course time, they also met with the dean of the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering of Chungbuk National University, Professor Joong Nam Jeon, in his office, who welcomed them and gave them valuable presents.
After finishing the courses, Professor Ryu organized a visit to two of the top research institutes in Daejeon, KIGAM (Korean Institute for Geoscience and Mineral Resources) and ETRI (Electrical and Telecommunication Research Institute).
They were happy to see a sample of Korean implemented research projects, and they were motivated to think about novel ideas in their graduation projects. They went back to Sudan on the 26th of August.
