2022 is hastening to its close, and so the present CBNU¡¯s student council, NA:Be, is about to fnish conclude its tenure. This year, as CBNU started full face-to-face lectures for the first time after the COVID-19 pandemic, the campus finally came alive with people, and eventually, students could enjoy the campus life that they desired for 2 years.
The NA:Be student council also initiated various events and pledges to ensure a pleasant school life for students. NA:Be was elected with the motto ¡®as you draw, as everyone dreams¡¯ last year, and has fulfilled pledges such as ¡®the budget autonomy system‚¡¯ ¡®the student petition system‚¡¯ and ¡®the cultural studies lecture/policy contest.¡¯ Based on this, an interview was conducted with Park Hyun-in (Dept. of Animal Science, 17), vice president of the student council, to look back on the past year and report on what tasks the student council has completed.
1. Please introduce yourself to the readers of the CBT.
Hello, I¡¯m Park Hyun-in, the vice president of the present CBNU students¡¯ council, NA:Be.
2. What were the most impressive and memorable episodes while running the student council for a year?
As total face-to-face lectures recommenced after 2 years of the COVID-19 pandemic, we organized various events to alleviate the frustration of students who couldn¡¯t enjoy their campus life during the pandemic. Among them, a project held for the first time this year, ¡°Hiking without Hesitation‚¡± lingers in my memory. This activity was planned and implemented so that students could have time to relax and recompose their bodies and minds while hiking and sightseeing the mountain with students council members. Not only hiking and sightseeing, but we also conducted ¡®plogging¡¯ which is the eco-friendly activity combining jogging and picking up trash on the trail while hiking. As NA:Be started this project for the first time, I can remember the director of the sports department working with more passion than anyone else, and I will never forget the invigorating experience of hiking Gyeryong Mountain. Also, I was thankful that most of the participating students safely completed the hike without accidents, and I was glad that the effort we poured into the event seemed to shine in the end.
3. Event booths and face-to-face festivals have been held after the relaxing of social distancing. Many students wonder about the course of preparation and hosting of these events. Could you please talk about what you felt during that time?
To fulfill the expectations of the students waiting for the first face-to-face festival after the COVID-19 pandemic, the students¡¯ council NA:Be, the general clubs¡¯ council Da-un and the ABELIO preparatory committee had teamed up, for three months, to prepare and host ¡®ABELIO: Gaeshin Daedong Festival.¡¯ Because it was the first festival in 3 years, we ran various programs and events that students could participate in to satisfy their needs and we set up diverse facilities and booths to make it a memorable experience. Furthermore, we contacted and casted artists who students wanted to see, thus approximately 35,000 students and citizens had visited the school to watch the performance which was the largest number of people watching the festival performance ever. To ensure the success of the festival, we put massive effort into the preparation, and finally it was very worthwhile and a huge honor that the CBNU participants had enjoyed the festival together.
4. The tenure of the NA:Be is about to be over, but unfortunately there are some pledges that have not been accomplished yet. Could you please talk about those?
For now, the percentage of fulfillment of the council¡¯s pledges is about 89%. The one pledge that we couldn¡¯t carry out yet is increasing the students¡¯ vote ratio in chancellor election. The student council is proceeding the tasks to accomplish the pledges ¡®increasing the students¡¯ vote ratio in the chancellor election¡¯ from the beginning of this year. To further the goal of honoring the pledge, we have been in conference with the faculty and the staff council about 30 times. However, we have not reached a conclusion yet. Even though there are only a few months left to complete the tenure, we will not give up until the end of our term. We will do our best to make the voices of the students heard so that we can implement the remaining pledge of ¡®increasing the students¡¯ vote ratio in the chancellor election.
5. Do you have any final words for the students of CBNU?
Firstly, I want to express my gratitude for being able to serve CBNU for a year and thus making an unforgettable memory during my campus life. Additionally, the year, 2022, will always be a very impressive and significant year for me. I want to say thank you to students who gave me this chance to serve CBNU, the president of the student council who guided us with his excellent leadership, and the heads of the various departments of NA:Be who all made a significant contribution. In conclusion, I want to congratulate the new student council. Please support and encourage them in all their efforts during the next year. Thank you.
