At the end of the vacation, students get on the Total Information Management System of CBNU to prepare for the new semester. The Total Information Management System(TIMS) provides a variety of services for the convenience of students. However, according to Lee Seung-ho, a leader of information teams in the Information and Computer Center, the utilization rate of the services, except for a few services, is very low even though the TIMS has many services. The services most used by the students are registering for courses and requesting mentor-mentee programs in order to satisfy their graduation requirements.
The services of TIMS consist of basic services, employment services, and basic programs. The most important basic services enable students to see the information about courses, scholarships, or personal information, to apply for dormitories, and to register for certifications.
The employment services help to foster the student¡¯s capabilities. There is a Gaesin service that focuses on enhancing students¡¯ abilities and providing job information. It consists of 6 subservices including the categories of Personal Information, C.H.A.N.G.E. Portfolio, Certification Services, Clean Heart, and Learning Support Programs.
The search for personal information consists of three processes: the admissions process, the preliminary university process, and the registration process, and they all enable students to retrieve data related to school life. In the admissions process, students can identify information about the college scholastic ability test before entering university. The preliminary university process service provides information about authorized English scores and MBTI types, such as TOEIC, and the registration process provides details about academic achievements and scholarship benefits.
The C.H.A.N.G.E. Portfolio is a service that enables students to explore their career paths and build a customized career plan for the jobs they desire. Students can get job information, such as certifications of career, as well as information on recommended books and courses at CBNU. It also provides the employment status of graduates, including the employment rates by departments and tables that compare CBNU with other universities.
Finally, basic programs are provided after contracting with companies. The programs provide several services as well as basic services for a more convenient college life. Among them, the representative ones are Office 365 and Copy Killer. Office 365 is a service that provides the latest version of the licensed office programs to students and faculty members. The service is available anywhere via the web as long as the user is certified. Also, Copy Killer is a free service for preventing plagiarism, correcting quotations, and citing sources on reports, papers of self-introduction, and references.
Despite the many functions of TIMS, one of the reasons why its utilization is low is that there are many additional programs that need to be installed before they can be used. In addition, there are services that are not available in the mobile market, making students uncomfortable. In regards to this matter, Lee Seung-ho, a leader of the information teams in the Information and Computer Center, said, ¡°Total Information Management System will be reorganized into the next generation of TIMS that will be based on HTCL5. The next generation of TIMS will make it possible to apply for classes without installing additional programs and will help improve the network. Also, multi-language support services will be added to TIMS for foreign students in July of this year. For a convenient college life, TIMS is constantly being improved, so I hope students use it a lot.¡±
