Last October, a student of the College of Education wrote in the CBNU Bamboo, which posts anonymous reports for students. The student questioned why the Dept. of Science Education appeared with their pubs, the Gaesin Festival, athletics meets, the Haeoleum Festival and orientation. Though there were 13 departments of the College of Education, they merged their departments into just four. The student also noted the inconsistency that the Dept. of Science Education doesn’t appear when the departments receive book support or take teaching practice. The student complained about their inconsistencies of switching department names and colleges. Since the post has been uploaded, students have disputed the existence of the Dept. of Science Education. A student, who is the planning manager of the student council of the Dept. of Science Education and its president, replied to the question, but the dispute is still ongoing.
  The Dept. of Science Education was managed until 2008. After that, the students had to choose one of the four majors among Physics Education, Chemistry Education, Biology Education, and Earth Science Education when they became sophomores. Since 2009, the Dept. of Science Education was merged into the four aforementioned majors. Now, it is an independent student organization, and it is operated regardless of school rules and college systems. When it was reorganized, they asked for understanding with their usage of  the name of the Dept. of Science Education because it was permitted by the student council. Therefore, they insist that the existence of the Dept. of Science Education is reasonable, and they continue to claim its authenticity.
  A dispute about the Dept. of Science Education participating in athletic meets has persisted. They can get good scores under relatively advantageous conditions because the 4 departments take part in the athletic meets together. Sin Jin-yeong(’14, Dept. of Chemistry Education) said, “If each of the 4 departments participate in the athletic meets separately, recruiting students for each sporting event is difficult. Thus, we participated in the athletic meets as the Dept. of Science Education. As a result, we got a good score and the other departments suffered from disadvantages. I think the other students had antipathy and objected to the existence of the Dept. of Science Education.” The Dept. of Science Education has been monopolizing prizes in all kinds of events including the athletic meets. In 2015, No Ji-hong, who was the student president of the Dept. of Social Studies Education suggested imposing a penalty on winning teams and second place teams so that other departments could have equal opportunities. Consequently, both the Dept. of Physics Education and the Dept. of Science Education, which were the winning team and the second place team, accepted the proposal.
  However, there were some opinions that it should be reconsidered. Sin Jin-yeong said, “It is true that their participation in the athletic meets is acceptable, but many people still complain about it. I think it needs to be discussed more in the student council of the College of Education.” Choi Gyeong-su, who is the student president of the Dept. of Science Education, said, “This year, I think both the student council of the College of Education and the Dept. of Science Education became complacent. Next year, a new student council of the College of Education will be established, and afterwards the Dept. of Science Education will make an effort so that students who feel uncomfortable about their existence can be recognized at our student council.” Jeong Se-hwan(’14, Dept. of Environmental Engineering) said, “I think that the existence of the Dept. of Science Education may be misunderstood by the other departments’ students. However, the student council of the Dept. of Science Education will make an effort to continue their authenticity and unity, but they don’t intend to dominate the other departments. I think the student council will grapple with the issues of the athletic meets and some other inconsistencies, but I expect they will solve it wisely.”
