Maybe everyone has heard the movie titled "Attack the Gas Station", but "Attack the Oasis Laundromat" may be unfamiliar. As time goes by, the number of laundromats decreases. Therefore, whenever I hear about a laundromat, a place comes into my mind which keeps the damp scent of the past and infused with dim memories.
As you can easily figure out from the title, a laundromat is the background of this theatrical play. This play had a record-breaking run with the main actor, Kang Tae-guk. The story goes as follows. When he started the job after his father passed away, he decided not to be tainted by greed. However, he was unhappy about the fact that the world came into a grimy place. One day, an unprecedented attack occurred in the laundromat by patrons because a rumor was spread that there was a hidden treasure which could satisfy each patrons' greed.
When you appreciate this play, you need to call into mind the title, "Oasis Laundromt", because it implies something significant. Namely, this laundromat provides a relaxation like an oasis under the broiling sunshine for displaced their real life purpose by selfish interests and being blinded by earthly desires. Most of all, everyone will feel the warmth from their own inner hearts because the laundromat's owner tries to provide such life-giving water to people in need.
This play has included in the national text book on Korean language from the beginning of 2010. It introduces this play as a solid story line having emotional resonance.
