Time has passed like an arrow. When I first entered the pressroom of The Chungbuk Times(CBT), I was a college freshman, but now 2 and a half years have passed, and I¡¯m waiting to become a senior. Being a reporter of CBT has been the best activity during my university life until now.
The process of how I got into the English newspaper was very simple. Coincidentally, I found a newspaper, and just in that newspaper, there was a recruit notice. The sole reason that I could learn English from this activity caused me to apply for it. At first, I thought the work in the English newspaper might be just translating Korean articles into English. However, reporters made the whole newspaper, from discussions about news items and interviews, to designing the newspaper. It was different from my expectations, but making a newspaper by ourselves made me more interested in CBT.
Of course, more than 2 years of time wasn¡¯t always happy. Once I was called by a professor because of the article¡¯s sensitive subject. Moreover, there was a sorrowful day of listening to a singers¡¯ performance through the window while I was sitting in the pressroom, because the school festival was on the same day as the deadline of the newspaper. However, the most stressful moment was earlier this year, when I became editor-in-chief of the CBT. At that moment, lots of reporters who worked with me for 1 year left CBT, and only a few reporters were left, so I was really worried if I could lead CBT well.
However, as the expression ¡®Blessing in disguise¡¯ points out, the situation yielded positive results. Because there were only a few people left, we recruited many new reporters, and nice people came to CBT. As a reporter in CBT, I could learn team work, and as an editor in chief, I could learn responsibility and how to handle diverse situations. However, most of all, by interviewing unfamiliar people and searching for new items, I could break my fear of challenges. Actually, after I entered CBT, I participated in diverse activities and traveled to Europe for a month during this summer vacation. CBT became an important turning point for me.
