I have many facebook friends such as Yonsei University¡¯s newspaper and GSA(General Student Association), and many other university¡¯s newspapers and GSAs, so I can know immediately about each university¡¯s affairs during last semester and still now. A tough wind lashed out at universities during last semester. For example, there was a confrontation against a school to obey the editorial rights of student reporters in Sungkyunkwan University, a university supporting fee lawsuit by national universities¡¯ students, and a hand written poster ¡°Are you all doing well?¡± with a declaration of the state, which spread to all universities. The wind is so tough since I became a university student.
Honestly, I think positively about those affairs because internal and external problems on university campuses were disclosed by students of those universities. Now, the students are actively participating and trying to solve the problems. After getting to know about those affairs around universities, I began to think, ¡°How about my university?¡±
I want to bring up some problems about our university students¡¯ negligence of university¡¯s affairs through the participation rate of public debate for electing the president of the student association last December. The public debate regarding the presidential election was a chance to communicate with the candidate and ask them about policies. At that time, I went there to cover the news. However, what I found was negligence by students. The number of students was less than 50. 30% of the students among them were ON&ON campaign members, and the other students were board members of student councils. During the election period, there were some controversies about ON&ON¡¯s passive campaign policies, their insincerity, and bad rumors. Therefore, the debate was a good chance to clearly resolve those controversies, but there was lack of participation.
Of course, I know that to blame only students for those phenomenona is not good because CBNU students are working really hard to get a job and they are local university students. I can understand their pressure to get a job. However, I hope university students will have a little more interest and effort to know about university affairs. We are components of CBNU and will be forever students of CBNU. If we don¡¯t care about our affairs, who will make CBNU a better place and bring a bright future to CBNU?
