[Reporter's View] GPW Is Not a Choice But an Obligation
Á¦ 144 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2013.11.04
*Great Place of Work (GPW)

Are you bearing in mind the company to which you want to devote your life? What is the reason for choosing that company that occurs to your mind? Because of a high salary? Because it is a job that others are envious of ? Although many employees work at a company they hoped for, Korean employees¡¯ depression has increasingly risen. According to a survey, 77% of Korean workers have depression from job stress. Moreover, Korea¡¯s corporate culture is harsh especially on female workers. Women¡¯s marriage and childbirth is a little unwelcome in companies. As a result, a growing number of female workers have decided to delay marriage and childbirth. Is Korea¡¯s corporate culture really an inevitable problem for workers? My answer to the question is ¡°no.¡±
What about the following companies: the company that begins with taking group pictures every morning and has time to praise each other, the company that hires temporary workers for full-time positions, and the company that has nursery facilities so that the parents can go to see their children anytime. All these things are new changes to achieve Great Place of Work (GPW).
GPW is not a choice anymore but an obligation. The performance-based corporate culture is gradually being shunned by society. The important thing in a company is the people. Among the people, the company has to especially consider the workers as a top priority. If the company listens to the employees¡¯ voices and expands welfare facilities for them, the profits will naturally follow. The company has to relieve employees¡¯ anxiety about the future and through welfare policies, and the company has to provide them with time for their self-development and their infant care. By doing this, the company can obtain employees who love the company. Furthermore, the company can present a good image to the employees¡¯ children. Speaking for the employees, they can make it both as parents and as workers thanks to their company. I¡¯m sure it is a win-win strategy.
Finally, it is true that GPW begins with a leader¡¯s attitude and management type, but it is the employees¡¯ sound minds that can maintain and develop the GPW. Not just following the firm¡¯s rules passively, finding their own creativity and autonomy in their work is the key to success. With a sound mind, you don¡¯t have to regret choosing ¡®the company to which you want to devote your life.¡¯
