[Desk Column] Presidential Election is Our Responsibility
Á¦ 128 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2011.10.31

Now, CBNU is so busy. The school is preparing for the elections of the next presidents in General Students Association(GSA) and each department in November. The candidates will register in early November. Students will elect a new president in GSA on November 23rd, and they will choose presidents of each college and club. Many organizations on campus will have new presidents.

However, there are no people to register to be president in some departments. Even the student council in the College of Education has been managed by a temporary president. Nobody was a candidate for that college this year. Other departments also have difficulty in recruiting candidates. Students have criticised the poor leadership of their student councils, and the student councils have complained about students¡¯ uncooperative attitudes. There have been very serious problems of students distrusting and not cooperating with their presidents.

Students seldom give a challenge to be president of student council in their departments, and someone is usually pushed into being president which is a bad situation. Maybe the president does not want to make a sacrifice or help students. Students think negatively about their nominal presidents.

Students should remember that they have the right to vote to select a candidate whom they follow and believe. Students should participate actively in their president¡¯s work when the president is elected by them. Students also must take the responsibility for their votes by criticising student unions.

The presidential election which will be held this month is a very important event in CBNU. Candidates who want to work for the school will start running an election campaign as they set their election promises. I certainly hope students will weigh up each candidate¡¯s election pledges and cast votes. Students can contribute to make our school better by casting ballots. The presidents¡¯ roles in each department are just as important as the role of the president of GSA. Students have to select their leaders carefully.

About 14,000 students will carry out the most important role in the school. Don¡¯t forget that the president of GSA and each college are students. Students directly select them, so students¡¯ participation is so important. I want to say to students, ¡°Please, look after our school.¡±
