The automobile company, Ssangyong Motors, applied to the courts for restructuring, and the court decided that the company needs restructuring to survive. However, some workers who are against dismissals called a strike, and the situation became worse. For 77 days, the incident at Ssangyong Motors drove into catastrophe because of the illegal strike and a breakdown of negotiations. Finally, the incident  was settled dramatically, but the settlement is a warning of another incident at Ssangyong Motors.
In fact, the labor union’s strike was selfish behavior. Owing to the incident, not only was production stopped but also cooperative relations with the company were seriously damaged. However, people should think about their position. How miserable the workers who had been fired from their company felt! As heads of families, they are against the company for the sake of their families.
On August 5, the Justice Minister, Kim Kyung-han, visited the factory in Pyeong-taek and said, “When you disperse yourselves, we will take the appropriate steps.” However, As soon as the incident ended, the police began to arrest the workers. The Ministry of Labor looked on with folded arms for 77 days, saying it was a problem between management and the labor union. In this incident many specialists indicate the government’s indifference was one of the reasons that made the situation worse.
Protesters need to take responsibility for acts of violence. The labor movement’s instigating the workers and managements’ hostile confrontation and the politicians’ irresponsible attitudes shouldn’t be tolerated. Increasing arrests and excessive legal proceedings may destroy their reconciliation. Both the management and workers want an amicable settlement. The most important thing that is needed is not investigating the workers, but healing the wounded hearts of them and the restoration of Ssangyong Motors.
