Recently, debate about the death penalty appeared again because of a serial killer. An execution hasn¡¯t been done for 12 years, since 23 people were executed in 1997. 58 condemned people are waiting for execution now. With the increase of atrocious crimes every year, does the death penalty have to be kept to prevent crimes? People who argue for the death penalty say that a tax paid for murder is valueless. Also they claim the death penalty is needed to prevent crimes. If so, is the death penalty really effective to prevent crimes? The existence of the death penalty can¡¯t be said to completely prevent crime. The reason crime occurs is the change of social structure, but execution is not unrelated. If thorough investigation progressed early, the tragedy that valuable life disappeared would be put to a stop. If we want to prevent crime, finding different ways would be wiser. Also, we should think about the human right that is a universal value. The main conception of the human right is life. There is no human right without life. Most of all, the value of life is absolute! Moreover, does the nation have the right to take an individual life? Before becoming a criminal, they are humans who have a valuable life. Even criminals have to be respected in their human rights. Of course, the human rights of victims are important. However, by executing a criminal, hurt and pain which victims have cannot be erased. The most important thing is that the nation and society are concerned about the hurt victims, and give criminals a chance to rehabilitate as society members. There are no people who should not have their human rights respected. A society that respects human rights will be better than a society that rules by death.
