Wi-Fi Spots on Campus
Á¦ 120 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2010.11.01
Students of Chungbuk National University can freely use wireless Internet thanks to many installations of Access Point (AP). With the appearance of wireless electronic media such as smart phones and netbooks, the use of wireless Internet rapidly increased. In the past, the usable areas of wireless Internet were rare and the charges were expensive. However, with the spread of the wi-fi zone, every student who has wireless electronic media can use the Internet at no cost.
Wi-Fi is an abbreviation of Wireless Fidelity. Wi-Fi is a famous wireless technology which is used in home networking, cellular phones and video games and can access the Internet through wireless LAN. Anyone who has wireless electronic media, such as PDAs and notebooks, can use the Internet around the area where  an AP is installed within a certain distance.
CBNU's Information and Computer Center has installed AP for the convenience of students since 2000. Including CBNU Main Library and the Student Union, the total number of installations of AP is 484 units. (See the map located on the right.) With the increase of the installations of AP, the number of students who have registered for school wireless Internet has increased from 700 people in 2008 to 5,250 people in 2010. This year, the number of students who have registered for school wireless Internet will increase with the expansion of installations of AP.
There are private wireless networks in CBNU. KT wireless network, called Olleh KT Zone, is accessible in several CBNU's locations. Among the three main mobile operators, LGT and SKT didn't install wireless networks in CBNU.
Na Se-yeon (Dept. of Education '10) said that it is very useful that she can use the wireless Internet with her smart phone and her netbook anywhere in school. In addition, although AP is not installed in dormitories, there are KT private wireless networks. Therefore, she doesn't have any problem with the use of wireless Internet in school.
In the future, CBNU's Information and Computer Center plans to install AP across the campus for revitalization of CBNU.
