Last September 6, CBNU students, majoring in English Literature, attended the ¡°2009 Shakespeare Festival¡± which was held by The National Theater of Korea and The Shakespeare Association of Korea. The CBNU students team won a prize. Each university students¡¯ team performed a play such as ¡°Romeo and Juliet¡± or ¡°A Midsummer Night¡¯s Dream.¡± CBNU students played ¡°Macbeth,¡± one of the Four Major Tragedies, edited partly by students.
Since 1983, the festival has been held annually for 25 years as the festival for Shakespeare attended by national university¡¯ students majoring in English Literature. In this festival, 10 universities, including Chungbuk University, Sungkyunkwan University, Dongduk Women¡¯s University and others, selected one of the Shakespeare plays and performed. Students made the play their own effort from planning to direction to make-up.
After the play, Jung A-young, (Dept. of English Language and Literature, 2) a member of the make-up team, said, ¡°My heart was full when I saw them acting on the stage. I was proud of them because they acted much better than before.¡± Also, Jung Hyeong-jin (Dept. of English Language and Literature, 3) who attended to help younger men as a staff member, said, ¡°We will attend this festival actively, and I hope to make the festival our tradition.¡±
As soon as they finished the performance, they encouraged each other, which showed the warm friendship and familiarity accumulated during summer vacation. Also, their passion showed that they have a possibility to develop and raise the reputation of the university.
