Beginning this semester, major subjects opened by the College of Commerce and Business Administration have a penalty when the students re-take the course. Professor Kim Young Rai (School of International Business) said that this penalty was started as the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) was introduced. Now, the number of lecture rooms and professors is less than the standard of AACSB: twenty five students per professor organized in a lecture room. In this situation, if many students re-take courses, the current number of class rooms and professors can¡¯t cope with so many students. For this reason, the re-taking system in the College of Commerce and Business Administration was changed. From this change in the system, students can have several advantages. First, students can have more comprehension about their major subjects. It is because the college carried out a relative evaluation in major courses to observe the standard of AACSB. Therefore, students must study hard to get a good grade. Second, the mental pressures which younger students have is lessened when they do not compete with senior students for grades. However, the highest grade that repeat students can get is now changed to B+, and it gave a competitive edge to junior students to receive good grades. Nevertheless, there are students who received disadvantages because of this system. They are students who didn¡¯t study hard in the time they were juniors or who were given a handicap in their lower classes because some professors gave good grades to students who were re-taking his/her class. If they study hard, they can¡¯t get an A or better when they re-take that class. There are merits and demerits when a system is changed, and there are some students with demerits who complain about this alteration. However, the reason for the change in the system of university affairs is obviously to give benefits to both school and students. Therefore, students should make an effort to adapt this system.
