Many countries have accepted immigrants of various races in this globalization era. Recently, Korea is facing the same situation and is going through a period of transition to a multi-racial country. Some developed countries, which already experienced this transition period, have created suitable policies for the integration of immigrants.
Australia is an island where various tribes lived, so it has a unique cultural identity and various languages. The government has made efforts for the social integration among the residents, focusing on intercultural understanding through the arts. The Australian Council plays a key role in this. In the Australian Council, students can enhance their understanding of different and strange cultures as well as their own culture.
The Japanese government dealt with the problems resulting from the immigrants by collaborating with local communities. The government has supported the immigrants financially and has enacted laws for them. On the other hand, local communities offer basic conveniences. For example, the immigrants can improve their Japanese through conversation classes with Japanese volunteers and can take exams to check their Japanese ability without fees thanks to the local communities¡¯ support.
Contrary to Japan where the local communities play a leading role, Germany controls the support groups directly. ¡°The Family¡±, a group that consists of about 100 branches, is a good representative. The group implements policies for families, especially for the multicultural families. It helps not only children to receive education by expanding multilingual care facilities and schools but also parents to get jobs by vocational training.
The U.S. is the most succesful case among multi-racial countries. Because the various races have lived together for a long time, the multi-racial cultures were stably absorbed into society. Therefore, the immigrants don¡¯t need the support of the government except in special cases such as the education of the illegal immigrants¡¯ children or maternity protection.
