| Tension of COOBNU due to Starbucks Appearance |

On Sep. 11, Starbucks opened a new branch on the first floor of CBNU First Student Hall (E3). Installation of external restaurants was one of the pledges made by President Koh Chang-seop during the 22nd presidential election in Jan., 2023. However, a total of only five cafes (four COOBNU and one COOBNU-STAR) are operated in campus. The first COOBNU store, which had been located on the basement level of the Gaesin Cultural Center (E2), closed on Sep. 25 in accordance with university policy decisions. |
| An Experience that Shows the Diverse Sides of Korea Cultural Exploration Program |

CBNU’s Office of International Affairs (OIA) was selected for the Global Innovative Talent Training Project and conducted the cultural exploration program for international students to tour various regions and companies in Korea. The program was held three times in total: the first was a traditional culture experience in Jeonju on Aug. 5 to 6, the second was a field trip to Ulsan HYUNDAI MOTOR GROUP and Po-hang POSCO Co., Ltd on Aug. 26 to 27, and the third was a cultural heritage site in Gyeongju on Sep. 26-27. |
| Eco-friendly K-pop, Goes to Protect the Environment |

On May 30, photos of discarded albums from K-pop group SEVENTEEN spread on social media platform X, formerly Twitter. This is not the first instance of fans disposing of large quantities of albums. This incident highlights a recurring problem: K-pop’s aggressive marketing strategies encourage fans to purchase multiple copies of albums, driven by random photo cards, event tickets, etc. Remarkably, the reliance on disposable plastics, excessive packaging, and overproduction in album manufacturing poses a significant threat to the environment. |

Since the election of President Yoon Suk-yeol in May 2022, Candle Act has been protesting and demanding the resignation of President Yoon, criticizing the government and the ruling party every week. Protests are not only held in Seoul but also across the country, and rallies are taking place in each region to demand the impeachment of the president and the appointment of a special prosecutor for first lady Kim Keon-hee. In Oct., CBT could feel the voice and the enthusiasm of the rally participants at the nationwide candlelight vigil. |
| Myanmar’s Desperate Reality: Continued Solidarity Is Needed |

Since 2021, there have been people struggling for democracy. These are the people of Myanmar. To overturn the election result, where the National League for Democracy (NLD) won in 2020, the Myanmar military staged a coup on Feb. 1, 2021. About 2 years ago, CBT covered Myanmar’s civil war. At that time, the Presidential Office of the National Unity Government (NUG) participated in an interview to highlight Myanmar’s situation and have helped for democracy. However, the conflict is still ongoing more cruelly. |
| Busan International Film Festival: A Global Gathering of Filmmakers |

Oct. is recognized as the month of culture. CBT reporter visited Busan, the city of cinema, to attend the 29th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). The 29th BIFF was held from Oct. 2 to 11, 2024, at the Busan Cinema Center and the Centum City area of Haeundae District. Established as one of Asia’s premier film festivals, this year's event once again served as a grand celebration where filmmakers and audiences from around the world gathered. It provided opportunities for cultural exchange through a wide range of film screenings. |
| APERIO: Opening Newness, 3 Days of Gaesin Daedong Festival |

From Oct. 28 to 30, 2024, the 56th Gaehwa student council of CBNU held the Geasin Daedong Festival. This year’s theme was APERIO, inspired by CBNUʼs founding philosophy, Nova Aperio, which means enlightening and unfolding new things. A total of 42 booths including the management headquarters, 17 flea markets, and 16 food trucks participated in 2024 Daedong Festival. The booths were divided into A and B zones centered on the 1st Student Center (E3) and the Central Library (N12), while food trucks and food zones lined the streets in front of the College of Social Sciences (N15). |

| “In this age where academic intelligence is valued more than other aptitudes, I have grown up with the ability to study well better than others, and I can therefore stay here as a professor.” This is what the professor, who gave a lecture about meritocracy, which refers to the notion that ability can be the dominant force in society, said to the students. In a society that recognized Korea’s overheated ranking of universities and meritocracy as a worthwhile value and consequently considers the process of entering prestigious universities successful, I who had never thought about the fairness of the ability itself was shocked by what the professor said. |
