Park Eun-bi, who is a student of the Dept. of English Language and Literature, said, ¡°I usually go to the CBNU library to copy my assignments or borrow some books. Actually, I don¡¯t know what other services are provided there.¡± As such, the CBNU library has been used just as a place where CBNU students can study during their exam periods and borrow books they need. However, other than those kinds of common functions of the library, there are various services and materials that many students don¡¯t know about in the CBNU library.
First, the CBNU library provides students with lots of databases of academic information. If a student wants to have access to those kinds of databases on his own, he will have to pay lots of money, but if he takes advantage of the CBNU library, he can receive a plethora of high-quality information for free. The databases are separated into two types, domestic databases and foreign databases, and those are organized well on the CBNU library website. Regarding the domestic information, there are 16 available online sites in total, and regarding the foreign information, there are 52 available online sites in total. Some sites only cover specific areas, such as Medicine, Education, Sociology and Science in Law. CBNU students can download a manual about how to use those sites on the CBNU library¡¯s website.
Another service is the E-learning system. The E-learning system is a free database with some online lectures about the civil service examination and the national technology certificate. Regarding the online lectures for the civil service examination, the CBNU library established an alliance with KG Passone, and the online lectures deal with the examinations for levels 7 and 9 civil servants and also police officers. As the number of students who are interested in the civil service examination has been increasing, these services are expected to attract many students¡¯ attention and relieve their financial problems.
In addition, the CBNU library made an online site that helps CBNU students obtain the national technology certificate. This site provides CBNU students with about 32 online lectures for free. Considering that the original tuition fee of those online lectures is about $426, this site is also expected to unburden students of their budget problems.
When it comes to cultural activities, the CBNU library has screened movies for students. The movies play on the first floor of the library on the second and fourth Fridays every month. The movies vary from classic movies, like black and white films, to the newest movies, like ¡®Kingsman¡¯.
The CBNU library has also tried to help physically challenged students utilize the library. Since it is not easy for physically challenged students to go to the library and borrow books, a delivery service has been made. If disabled students use this service, they can receive books in their department office or even at home, and they can borrow up to 10 books a month.
Beyond those services, there are some other services. Lee Ji-young, who is a manager of subject reference room, said, ¡°We have held an exhibition about German libraries on the first floor of the library. I hope that they think of the library as a cultural place where they can take a rest and relieve their stress by watching a movie or visiting an exhibition.¡± In addition, she promoted the library, ¡°Actually, at the beginning of every semester, we publish a brochure that introduces the various events and services of the library to CBNU students. I hope many students will utilize the library.¡±
